Indian Creek Halloween Walk 2012
Each year, a local campground holds a Halloween Walk and, each year, we miss it. Until this year! Indian Creek Campground at Mark Twain Lake is just a few miles from our house so we were thrilled to make it this year. They really go all out with light shows and decorations! If you’re local and haven’t been, you really should! All I had was my iPhone camera and I’m not exactly the best nighttime photographer anyway. Okay, so I’m not the best daytime photographer, either. Shush.
They had tons and tons of displays and each camping spot was decorated. Way cool!
*Editing to add: Duke went as a Colorful Guy in a Hat. I took his pic, too, but it got goobered up sending from my phone to the computer and, of course, I’d already deleted it from my phone before I discovered the goobering. *sigh*
Nellie went as an artist and Josie went as a ‘flying princess”. No, not a fairy. A flying princess. Apparently, there’s a big difference between the two, according to Josie.
Charlie went as a pathetic-faced injured person. He soon learned that crutches are not as fun as they look. (I recently found those crutches at the thrift store for $3 so, next time I bugger up my ankle, I won’t have to beg crutches from friends.)
Isaac went as Slenderman. Yeah, I don’t know who that is, either, but he got recognized a lot. He even had one woman asked to get her picture taken with him — kissing him. Heh.
(Excuse the blurry blob. I’m told Slenderman cannot be photographed without blurry blobs.) We ordered him a real mask but it arrived a day late so we rigged one out of some t-shirt knit fabric I had in my stash. On Halloween, he’ll finally get to wear the real mask and those lumps on the side of his head will be gone.

Cool costumes! I think originality in making the costume, or pulling one together with stuff you already have, is soooo much better than just buying something and putting it on.
Tnose are nice, hospital-quality crutches. Adjustable, too. I almost bought some at a garage sale a few weeks back. Wish I had. God forbid I fall down the stairs again but it’s better than renting a scooter. Scooter’s aren’t that much help when you have stairs and narrow bathrooms. Gotta have 40 acres to turn them thangs around….
Cute kids! I have read and enjoyed your blog for years, enjoy watching your kids grow and change, and love your approach to teaching by using life experiences (and useful ones at that!) Oh, and gotta mention your humor…can’t forget that cause you rock some humor! Thanks for letting me peek into your life and family!
Love the costumes! Joshua borrowed my old lab coat last year, put goo in his hair to stand up crazy, and claimed to be a ‘Mad scientist!” – Love when kids can create with what they have.
I hear ya on the medical supplies too. I picked up 8 wrist braces of various types the other day at a yard sale. Excellent find! And I’ve got 2 wooden stretches (new – but tossed out cuz they ‘expired’? ) yeah, I know, how the heck does a wooden stretcher expire? And talk about georgeous! Prettiest stretchers ever, hopefully I’ll never need anything from them but to notice how pretty they are! And believe it or not, you know that metal device they use to cram down a person’s throat to put hoses down? well, got one of those too! (new/expired date) – of course someone else said it was the thing they use for woman’s pap smears… I dunno, but it’s cool! Got not use for it, but it’s cool! Open it up, and a light beam comes on! WAY COOL!…..one of these days I’m gonna organize all my ‘interesting’ medical supplies to the back closet in my room. I imagine it’ll take up a whole wall! But I’ll be prepared!
Love the costumes, very creative.
The medical supplies are always good to have on hand. We have I think 5 pairs of crutches, from child size to tall adult. All found on the curb the day before garbage pick-up. We have 2 wheelchairs, assorted canes and a walker. I have my grabber thing too, so if something drops on the floor I can pick it up. Now I’m trying to get a power chair so I can go places alone.
